Planète sacrée / Sacred Planet
The global meeting place for decision makers seeking practical ways to save the planet
« Sacred Planet », a global corporation, is introducing itself for the first time today October 19, 2007.
It is hosted both on www.Sacred-Planet.com and www.Planete-sacree.com, as it is bilingual to begin. Spanish and Chinese will be coming later.
Is this another organization?
No, Sacred Planet is a private company with a humanitarian goal. It is new. Sacred Planet is not soliciting any subsidy, but intends to expand just like any business, with private funds that will insure its independence. When it will make profits, in two or three years time, a part of these will be distributed to sustainable development micro-projects in countries in process of development.
What is Sacred Planet? Another new website about sustainable development?
Yes, but not like the others. It will be a multimedia platform: web, television, radio, advertising, press, expertise agency, rating agency, event creation, etc.
To talk about what?
To broadcast all the practical, proven, factual solutions discovered throughout the world that are contributing to a sustainable development.
Which solutions ?
Those implemented by all the major actors of society anywhere on the planet : public policies ( laws, tax codes, urban planning...) of states, regions or cities; businesses’ products and processes as well as initiatives increasing employees’ awareness, innovations designed and validated by public or private research centers or by universities, actions undertaken by non-profit organizations or by the medias, as well as isolated ventures of inventors or groups of private individuals.
How will these solutions be presented ?
First they will be indexed, appraised, then validated, and eventually benchmarked; this in order to guarantee that all actors are informed of their validity and efficacy.
Why? Because, in matters of ecology and sustainable development, solutions are often brilliant on paper but inadequate on the field. Good intentions often turn against their authors or promoters, since ecology is as complex as a brain and subject to the moods of time, producers, consumers, streams of thoughts.
Any examples ?
Recycled paper. For twenty-five years we have been taught we should only use recycled paper. Today it seems to be a false good idea, which we will explain later.
Another example, organic fuel or bio-fuels: everybody was betting on them to solve the crucial problem of oil and others fossil fuels. But now nobody is sure anymore that organic fuel is the right solution: as a matter of fact, the agribusiness developed to produce the fuel appears to be equivalent to pouring wheat into our engines rather than in people’s stomachs. Therefore, cereals market prices have been dangerously rising lately, world stocks are running low and some experts now think that the pollution generated by organic fuels may be more harmful than the one generated by common fuels. No doubt one should take experts’ opinions with a grain of salt as they often contradict each other, even though they most often express good faith. This example shows well how cautious we should be before supporting one solution rather than another. It will be the dogma of Sacred Planet : prudence. We will live up to an obligation to study, evaluate, compare.
Everyday we will share with you the solutions that triggered our interest, prior to the later validation stage.
Who founded Sacred Planet ?
A very professional team of freaks, which you will discover as the project unfolds. Just know they are all concerned about preserving the planet and mankind, and not in opposing one against the other. They do not believe in miracle solutions but in a combination of a myriad of different solutions. They are pragmatic and independent of all pressure groups. They are pacific, tolerant, and determined, as they all have children or grand-children, and do not want to pass on to them a rotten planet.
The initiator, Louis Bériot, has been a Media professional enjoying a high visibility and a reputation for integrity as a specialist of environment-related issues for over forty years. He was one of the very first environment journalist at the French newspaper « France Soir » during the sixties. Then he created on French television the famous show « La France Défigurée » (How they mangle France’s face) with Michel Péricard, before becoming Chief Editor, then Director of Programmes and eventually Director of Channel 2, the French national TV program.
He has co-founded associations like « Espaces pour demain » (A Living Space for Tomorrow), the Action Comity for solar power including such French opinion leaders as Brice Lalonde, Joël de Rosnay, Robert Lion, and was one of the founders of the Comity 21 for sustainable development with Serge Antoine.
Louis Bériot has published about twenty books, of which half are about ecological and economical issues.
Who is concerned by Sacred Planet?
Everyone; decision makers who are looking for solutions, actors who, somewhere, have demonstrated good solutions and wish to make them known and become part of of our life tomorrow, and the public, who wants to do what he can here and now to preserve this incredible miracle in the Universe called Planet Earth.
